Deleting a policy is straightforward, but exercise caution: the action is irreversible and erases the policy's versions, categories, subcategories, controls and comments. Depending on your workspace configuration, deletion is either immediate or routed through an approval workflow.

1. Delete a Policy Without Approval Workflow

  1. Navigate to the Policies section and select the policy in the Policy structure tree.
  2. Open the More options menu in the policy header and choose Delete.
  3. A confirmation dialog asks whether you are sure and warns that all child elements will be deleted too, and that the action cannot be undone.
  4. Click Cancel to back out, or confirm to remove the policy permanently.

2. Delete a Policy with Approval Workflow

To require review before deletion, go to Settings, open the Workflows tab and enforce the policy deletion flow in the Policies group (choose Single or Multiple validation and the Approver role, as for version approval).

With the workflow enforced:

  • Requesting a deletion does not remove the policy; it is marked Policy Pending Deletion, with the request date, and flagged in the tree as pending deletion approval.
  • Users holding the approver role review the request and choose Confirm Deletion or Cancel Deletion from the policy header.
  • With Multiple validation, all approvers must confirm before the policy is permanently deleted.

Warning: once the deletion is confirmed, recovery of any data is impossible. Make sure the policy and its associated data are no longer needed.
