When frameworks evolve, keeping a clear record of changes is essential. CSFaaS versions your frameworks and, if you want, routes each new version through an approval workflow.

1. How Framework Versions Work

  • Open the Framework Versions drawer from the framework's version pill to see every version with its status and history.
  • Create a new version explicitly with New Major or New Minor; the new version starts from the version you select and can be given a name.
  • Only a version that is In progress can be edited. Approved and pending versions are read-only.
  • You can view any earlier version at any time; the version pill shows whether you are on the Latest or a Previous version.

2. Configure the Approval Workflow

Version approval is not enforced by default, but it is recommended once your organisation matures. To configure it, go to Settings, open the Workflows tab and find the framework version flow in the Frameworks group. Three settings apply:

  • Not Enforced vs Enforced: when not enforced, the same user can validate a version; when enforced, versions must go through the approval flow.
  • Single vs Multiple validation: one approver is enough, or every user holding the approver role must approve.
  • Approver role: the workspace role whose members act as approvers.

Tip: for multiple validation, create a dedicated role for approvers and assign the right people to it in Settings, Users.

3. Submit a Version for Approval

  • When your in-progress version is ready, click Send for Validation in the Framework Versions drawer. The version status becomes Pending.
  • Approvers are notified and can Approve Version or Reject Version, with an optional comment. In multiple validation mode, each approval is recorded until all approvers have responded.
  • While a version is pending you can still Cancel Pending, and a rejected version can be returned to draft to continue working on it.

4. Manage Your Versions

  • Check the status of any version: In progress (being worked on), Pending (awaiting approval), Approved, or Refused.
  • View a previous version: switch to any earlier version in read-only mode to compare or audit past states.
  • Delete a version: possible for versions that are neither the active one nor the latest one. Deletion is irreversible, so make sure the version and its data are no longer needed.
